2 The sons of Israel [^Canother name for Jacob] were Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, Zebulun, ² Dan, Joseph, Benjamin, Naphtali, Gad, and Asher.

Judah’s Family

³ Judah’s sons were Er, Onan, and Shelah. A Canaanite woman, ·the daughter of Shua [or Bath-shua], was their mother. Judah’s ·first son [firstborn], Er, did ·what the Lord said was wicked [^Levil in the Lord’s sight/eyes], so the Lord ·put him to death [killed him].
